The tale
About The Living Spirit of Chris Jones
This is not a Chris Jones recording. This is his living spirit......performing a new song.A dialogue through music.
He lived in roadhouses and automobiles.A million miles in a rental car.He said this kind of life was inseparable from what he does. And that he’d be lying if he said there was anywhere else he’d rather be.Despite a high price he had to pay for it.
But he was brave enough to show us the scars from that life.He sang of being a stranger to his children... and to himself.Of the “cold creature” of heartbreak......and the crushing reality of “child support and alimony.”
He showed us the man in the mirror at 3 A.M., battling his demons.“Take a good look people, this is as low as a man can get.”
He navigated it all with a compass of his own making. He saw God move on the water, a force bigger than us all......but had no taste for the hypocrisy of organized religion.“I don’t need your religion, any more than you need mine.”
He was an outsider who felt things deeply......and knew that “love don’t never come for free.”
He left everything in his songs. His pain. His truth. His soul.So you don’t need to have met the man to know him.You just need to listen.
And his spirit... lives on.Someone IS listening to this song......long after he’s gone.
For Chris. A man I know.
I created this song, “The Living Spirit of Chris Jones,” as a deep and personal homage to a musician whose artistry moved me.
The goal was to channel his playing style so completely that it might feel like you’ve discovered a lost recording. This is why the song is named as it is — it’s imagined as a new performance from him, a testament to the idea that a musician’s true essence never fades.
He was an artist who laid his life bare in his work, a modern troubadour who never shied away from the difficult truths of his journey.
This instrumental is my way of saying his spirit, and his unmistakable sound, live on. I hope when you listen, you can hear it too.
